GR5 Day 3 - Early Morning Bonkets
Lac de Darbon - Les Mattes
Had a bit of a lie in and watched the sunrise over the lake. Then onwards and upwards where we came upon a large herd of bonkets - I call them this because they are always lying down and they are French ;) There were a couple of males butting horns and showing off, we had to go off piste as they were lying across the path and they were not for shifting. Arrived at some chalets and tried my very poor French to order some crepes but apparently no crepes today as they were shut or had no idea what I was on about. I did however need a crap! And that occupied my thoughts and made for a jaunty walking style, to stop it trying to escape most of the morning. Eventually successful evacuation preceded in a very posh hotel serving foie gras (that will teach them).
By now the horse fly bites have taken a turn for the worst and are now swollen red sections of leg that are merging towards each other so I look like I have been hit with a cane. A very nice lady at the pharmacy sold me some bite cream and some drugs so let's see if that helps, but apparently the best cure is not to get bitten in the first place ...... Maybe the biting little f.... wits don't realise I'm trying to do this as I'm hopping around the forest swearing and slapping myself.
So tonight we are pitched up on a grassy knoll overlooking a range of mountains that we don't know what they are called so they shall be know as mountains with no name. We had a delicious 2 bag pasta boil with some rehydrated vegs. The cows bells are clanging away and the sun has set so I'm off into the tent to sip a drop of drambui. As much as Jac takes the p about my excessive weight (I must admit Barbara is a bit off a fat lass at 16 kg with water :-0 ) it doesn't seem to stop her swinging the night time aperitif. Also my plan for bringing extra food supplies is paying off as the village we passed through had no supplies of the edible nature though they did have a lovely line in ski magnets!
Horse fly bites 2 new ones - there was obviously a tiny patch of skin free!
Mozzies bites 10 to them and 2 squishes to me :D
Stuff lost and found today for me:
Buff / lip salve / buff again / sunglasses / step counter - though it was packed in sleeping and bag and had racked up 68,000 steps - get in.
Stuff lost for Jac:
Her spoon ...... This is quite funny as she was telling me off for losing my stuff, mine I pointed out was not lost but misplaced .... She said only because she walked behind me picking it up .... Fair point, unfortunately this means spoon share.
