GR5 Day 15 - Forest Karma

GR5 Day 15 - Forest Karma

Modane - Col De La Fallee Etroite

So after fliesville we were up and packed away pretty sharpish, and had the wild notion that we would take a day off to recover, in the little quaint sounding village of Fourneaux. There was by all accounts a nice campsite, well as I have said before it is pointless planing, as the quaint little town was well ....not so little and not so quaint. It had its own council estate and its own family of beggars that were doing the rounds with the same baby.

So after a quick refreshment in the boulongerie that was specialising in burnt baguettes and slightly singed croissants, we made haste,"Paddy I'm a sicko Dillon" (those who don't know he is the author of the GR 5 guide book we use), said it was a slightly steep climb but it would ease out into gradual easy ascent through forest paths, what he negated to tell you was that you should be roped together and you may need supplemental oxygen on hand.

Many many hours of walking followed, it was neither gradual or easy, but we eventually summited the last col of the day Col de la Valle Etroite and the days walk had officially ended, well it did if you were staying in the refuge and not wild camping like us hardy nutters, so the normal search for water and a flattish bit of grass to lay out weary bones on began ,in the yonder distance lay what appeared to be a good spot, but first we had negotiate a steep descent and a rather large herd of cows that were languishing across the path, laughing cows they were not, I would even go to say the ones with big horns were particularly menacing, eventually we worked our way through them using words of a threatening nature, things like burger and beef bourguignon and down we went to our perfect little spot, well it was perfect apart from the cow pats but I guess that's just Sod's law.

Things I feel bad about:

There are many many ants in the forest and try as you might it is impossible to avoid not squishing some.

Things I have learnt:

Karma is a wonderful thing especially when it happens to some one else ... Ie Jac, if you stand too close to an ants nest for any prolonged period of time, it is likely that some ants may climb up your shoes and slip inside and give you a nasty little bite.

This will result in a large amount of hopping around and is very funny to watch.

Compliments given and insults in return:

Jac .... my legs don't look any thinner for all this walking

Me .... Your calves are looking very toned and tanned though.

Me .... Do my legs look thinner ?

Jac .... You don't need to lose weight off your legs !!!
