So we decided to test the Alpkit Koro titanium stove against the Jetboil Flash and MSR Pocket Rocket. We've had a few trips out with friends and it's amazing how competitive you can suddenly become over the speed of the boil versus weight of the kit! You know who you are! Our choice was to ditch the small cooking pot and use our Alpkit 650 Mytimug instead. Which is fine if you only boil water but I'd imagine if you cooked with them you'd be scrubbing them clean for weeks. Not easy when carrying minimum kit, though we have allowed 22 grams on an MSR pot scraper. It's that or be hard core and fill pan with gravel and give it a good shake!
So after several tests with the same amount of water we decided to keep the extra weight and take the small pot too with the Koro stove. It's not as fast to boil as the other options but it sits directly on the ground so stability is great. Having lost a few pots of water on the pocket rocket due to rocky ground we can't risk losing water on days where it may be scarce. We also have a light Alpkit cooker wind shield so this should help preserve gas and improve speed. It's a lovely electric blue aluminium too so practical and stylish kit always appeals to the designer in me!
