There is a Bad Smell in the White House.
Well ..... a momentous and historical day for two reasons, firstly Donald (not of the Walt Disney fame ... though that hair does possible hint at some genetic link to Mr Duck). Has been elected as the 45th president of the great old US of A.
Secondly, though not as momentous an impact on the free world I have to admit, but then again stranger things have happened this year, so who knows .... Is the return of "Old Lady Vlogger".......cheers ...clapping ...whoops of joy are heard .... Maybe ... Ok ...NOT
I have been toying with the idea of writing some more drivel since we returned from our amazing trek, and after witnessing and listening to quite a lot today, I feel this is a fitting day to return.
Last time we checked in we had just completed the GR5, and now nearly 2 months after, with the rose tinted glasses covering my eyes and the freezing weather outside I am wishing we were back traversing the Alps, bring back the epic ascents and descents each day, bring back the nights of wild camping and the star filled skies, even bring back the 3 meals a day of Tuc biscuits and Nutella, but hold off on 40 nights of dried pasta... we are still not fully recovered from that one.
Since then not a lot has happened, at the moment the plan was to be on a Sri Lankan beach, paddling in the sea and eating a lot of spicy food, but those of you who know me will be aware that boob gate has reared its head again. So we must wait a few more weeks until we get, either our get out off jail free card or the go to jail, do not pass go, do not collect £200.
Dependent upon the roll of the dice, we will be either purchasing suntan lotion and rupees or I will be purchasing a fetching wig.
In the meantime however we have had a few closer to home adventures. Hovis the camper van has been taken out of storage and let loose onto the lakedistrict roads. Where we have caused many a tail back and alarmed a few sheep as she comes farting down the road (the van .. not Jac)
Caught up with lovely family and friends, and popstar (AKA the "savage") has had a LOT and I mean a LOT of walks, so much so that now when I suggest "walkies" I get a look that says ... You can go fu#k yourselves matie if you think I'm moving out of this bed.
So it's good to be back, it will give me something to do apart from irritating Jac with my "I'm board" outbursts at least 3 times a day, Pops legs may well grow back as she is looking a little stumpy even for a border terrier, and when I am back in a job working long hours with a possible long commute I can look back at all this and realise that I never fully appreciated the time off I had when I had it.
It is true what they say be careful what you wish for ... And that goes out to the all the American people as well.
What I have learned:
Excessive consumption of chocolate, cakes, and treats will make your clothes shrink without the accompanying Alpine walking to burn them off ... This is a very disappointing reality and another reason to return to long distance trekking as soon as possible.
